Introduction

This unit provides an overview of contemporary palliative care principles. You will learn about the underpinnings of palliative care practices, with a particular focus on such practices for people with dementia and the people close to them. A core consideration of dementia is its progressive, life-limiting nature. Dementia is an incurable, neurodegenerative condition, with multiple symptoms arising across its trajectory. A palliative approach for the care of those living with dementia is therefore appropriate.
