Professional Experience Placement (PEP)
Students will be allocated PEP within individual health care agencies. Students must be available 5 days a week (40 hours) during the allocated PEP, and must be prepared to undertake a range of shifts – morning, evening and nightshift, which may include weekends, as per roster provided by the healthcare agency. Students may be expected to relocate and are expected to travel to where PEP is available. To be eligible to undertake PEP, all students must be ‘Verified’ as meeting College of Health and Medicine PEP Safety in Practice Compliance as per the Course Entry Requirements.
Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.
PEP dates MAY differ from University of Tasmania calendar semester dates.
Introduction
This professional experience placement unit further explores concepts associated with occupation and extends your ability to determine an occupational evaluation and intervention plan to facilitate occupation across the lifespan using the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key theoretical approaches to practice. Other relevant frameworks, including the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) are examined and evaluated. You will draw on the concepts and principles of occupational therapy and occupational science and apply reflective practice, response to feedback and evidence-based approaches to client centred therapy planning and provision including therapeutic interviewing, occupational performance analysis, and session planning to assist people to meaningfully participate in life.

- Perform safe and adequate occupational therapy practice at an intermediate level.
- Conduct an occupation analysis and identify occupational performance, participation and meaning across the lifespan, using the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and an appropriate occupational model.
- Document goal focused occupational therapy session plans outlining activity that therapeutically addresses occupational performance, using clinical reasoning and person centredness.
- Communicate effectively and safely with clients, families, and significant others to meet desired health, wellbeing and occupation needs in a culturally sensitive and collaborative manner.
- Evidence self-management and responsiveness to feedback in the supervisory relationship through critical reflection
