Professional Experience Placement (PEP)
Students will be allocated PEP within individual health care agencies. Students must be available 5 days a week (40 hours) during the allocated PEP, and must be prepared to undertake a range of shifts (majority of shifts are during standard work hours; evening shifts are rare but can occur, night shifts do not occur) and which may include weekends, as per roster provided by the healthcare agency. Students may be expected to relocate and are expected to travel to where PEP is available. To be eligible to undertake PEP, all students must be ‘Verified’ as meeting College of Health and Medicine PEP Safety in Practice Compliance as per the Course Entry Requirements.
Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.
PEP dates MAY differ from University of Tasmania calendar semester dates.
Introduction
This placement will involve engaging in professional psychology practice. This placement will promote a scientist-practitioner model of the professional psychologist with opportunities to develop competencies and increased independence in psychological assessment and intervention with common psychological presentations across the lifespan. Students will be expected to consider psychological theory and research in the selection and application of assessment and intervention, and to tailor this to individual client presentations.

Learning Outcomes
- Apply, under supervision, the scientist practitioner model of practice to select, administer, score, and interpret a range of psychometric tests and questionnaires to clients and provide feedback to clients and referrers as appropriate and commensurate with Stage 2 competencies as measured by the CYPRS
- Apply, under supervision, and tailor knowledge of psychology and counselling skills to the development and delivery of tailored psychological assessments/interventions commensurate with Stage 2 competencies as measured by the CYPRS
- Appraise, under supervision, ethical challenges in psychological practice and apply ethical decision making models to navigate ethical issues as they arise with clients commensurate with Stage 2 competencies as measured by the CYPRS
- Apply, under supervision, reflective practice skills to critically appraise psychology practice with clients and integrate feedback from supervision to engage in continual improvement of clinical skills commensurate with Stage 2 competencies as measured by the CYPRS
