Introduction
This unit is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the practical and theoretical concepts involved in the production of commercially important aquatic species, including molluscs, crustaceans, finfish and plants. Throughout this unit, students will gain a detailed knowledge of the biology of cultured species, and the different strategies employed in their production, from juvenile to market. Emphasis will be placed on the management of the culture environment to optimize the grow-out performance of different species, as well as the identification and response to common problems encountered during aquaculture production cycles. Through a variety of learning activities, including lectures, practical exercises, field trips and assessments, students will develop a strong foundation in the science of Aquaculture. They will have the opportunity to interact with experienced faculty and industry professionals, and gain practical skills and knowledge that will prepare them for a career in this rapidly growing industry
