Introduction
This unit will develop the drafting skills and design knowledge of the student. At completion, the student will be competent to obtain any required information from engineering drawings produced to international standards and conventions. The student will also be able to produce drawings of an adequate standard using CAD tools for the manufacture of marine components and its system. Besides, they will possess knowledge of design and drafting principles which will enable maximum benefit to their intermediate and advance engineering unit. This unit will develop the drafting skills and design knowledge of the student. This unit meets the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the Maritime Training Package, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A-III/1 of the STCW Code.

Learning Outcomes
- Interpret marine machinery and system drawings.
- Use general engineering terms and symbols and in particular those used in marine engineering to simple design tasks.
- Use CAD to produce working drawings of basic components of marine machinery to demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of projection using relevant Australian standards.
- Demonstrate an operational and proficient level of communication through sketches components in the first and third angle projection to the required Australian Standards.
