Location: Launceston

Introduction

In this unit students develop a line of speculative, self-directed research in the field of contemporary design, forming the basis of their Honours thesis. They identify a research theme, specify research questions, and develop preliminary design work for their thesis. They also have regular meetings with a supervisor to monitor the progress of their research. The work is to be developed throughout the semester, taking into account feedback from critiques.

  • Develop a composite proposition through self directed critical analysis that clearly directs the formation of a design outcome, demonstrating iterative critical and reflective thinking.
  • Evaluate, discern and synthesise complex information to inform LO1 demonstrating the use of innovative methodologies/multidisciplinary resources to best undertake this analysis.
  • Interpret the contextual requirements as appropriate to the research inquiry (e.g. client, user, environment, society, economy) in the development of the composite proposition.
  • Communicate professionally through visual, object, written and verbal media the formation of a composite proposition for a design outcome.
