Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring unit (KRA540)

Location: Hobart

Introduction

Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring utilises the diversity of examples of environmental chemistry in natural, urban and industrial environments within Tasmania to develop an understanding of the sources and fate of chemical contaminants in the environment, and an understanding of the technologies and management options used to understand and mitigate environmental impact. Learning activities will provide opportunities to develop skills required for conducting environmental assessments and preparing environmental management plans. This knowledge, along with an understanding of the framework by which environmental guidelines are developed, provides the basis for developing risk-based approaches to environmental assessments. You are expected to undertake prescribed reading at an advanced level on recent developments in environmental chemistry to supplement unit content.

This unit is one of the three required units in Year 1 for the students interested in pursuing the Analytical and Environment stream of the Master of Chemistry (P7J).
