Hobart Clinical School

About

The Hobart Clinical School (HCS) is one of three Clinical Schools associated with the Tasmanian School of Medicine at the University of Tasmania.

The Hobart Clinical School has existed on this current site since 1960. Located on Level 3, F block within the Royal Hobart Hospital, with main access via ’the big white stairs’ at 43 Collins Street. The location includes several teaching spaces and a dedicated simulation area, academic staff offices, as well as a student common room and study spaces. The Albert G Baikie Clinical Library is located on the Ground floor. The location of the school allows us to support our students completing professional experience placements whilst in the hospital and to work closely with our clinical partners.

Our multidisciplinary team at Hobart Clinical School includes nurses, general practitioners, physicians, surgeons, public health physicians; and specialty rotation coordinators, including emergency medicine and critical care consultants, paediatricians, women’s health and obstetric specialists, and psychiatrists. We have an active group of junior doctors who regularly participate in delivering teaching. We are grateful for our honorary clinical staff who participate in teaching and assessment within the program. We also have a team of dedicated professional staff on site who assist in all aspects of program delivery.

The school has formal relationships with other clinical care delivery organisations: Calvary Hospital and St John’s Hospital, The Hobart Clinic, Queen Victoria Care as well as urban and rural General Practices.

We are very grateful to the people of Tasmania who are willing to have our students included in their healthcare, and the contribution this makes to the development of a strong healthcare workforce for Tasmania.
