It’s our mission to help Lutruwita/Tasmania understand its history, identity, environment, and future, through a research mission that meets the needs of the State while contributing nationally and globally in areas of distinctive advantage.
The University of Tasmania Strategic Plan emphasises deep, purpose‑driven partnerships across community, industry, and government to support bold, transformative change and Tasmania’s transition to a thriving, sustainable future by 2050. Central to this work are the five Tasmanian Transitions – Education, Health, Productivity, Climate, and Tasmanian Stories – which guide our research priorities and amplify our societal impact. Our research brings together the brightest minds to address the issues of today and tomorrow. We’ve been ranked number 1 in climate action globally for 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 1 and we are a recognised leader in partner-driven collaborative research.
