  • 1 Adapt and apply research processes, methodologies, tools, and techniques to conduct an independent ethical socially-aware ICT-related research project;
  • 2 Critically analyse research literature to compose a literature review;
  • 3 Evaluate factors to justify the answer to a research question;
  • 4 Communicate effectively and justify the research techniques and the research results both orally and in a written thesis; and
  • 5 Construct efficient ICT solutions in accordance with best practice and industry standards by exercising computational, creative and critical thinking.

Course structure

In the BICT(Hons) candidates will do the equivalent of eight 12.5 credit point units. Candidates must satisfactorily complete KIT451 ICT Research Dissertation A and KIT452 ICT Research Dissertation B.

Entry requirements

The College of Sciences and Engineering may accept as a candidate for the BICT(Hons) a person who has qualified for a bachelor degree (3 or 4 year degree) from an accredited tertiary institution and who has a DN average over four advanced level units from their ICT related major (or equivalent).

Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer, as detailed below.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0).

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided.

Course Specific Requirements

The College of Sciences and Engineering may accept as a candidate for the BICT(Hons) a person who has qualified for a bachelor degree (3 or 4 year degree) from an accredited tertiary institution and who has a DN average over four advanced level units from their ICT related major (or equivalent).

Upon completion of this program, you may be eligible for entry into a MSc or PhD.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.

HECS-HELP loans
