Six students from the University of Tasmania have been officially announced as recipients of the coveted New Colombo Plan Scholarship for 2024.
The New Colombo Plan Scholarship, a flagship initiative of the Australian Government, recognises and supports Australia's most promising students to undertake semester-based study and internships in the Indo-Pacific region. The scholarship aims to foster ties between Australia and its neighbouring countries, while providing students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in diverse cultures, languages and professional experiences.
The recipients for 2024 were chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants nationwide and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities, and a genuine commitment to building stronger ties across the Indo-Pacific region. Their success stands as a testament to their academic efforts thus far and desire to extend themselves further, from Tasmania to the rest of the world.
Each of the students (listed below) will engage in immersive academic experiences and professional internships within their chosen host countries. The New Colombo Plan Scholarship celebrates recipients’ potential to be influential ambassadors, fostering enduring connections between Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.
In congratulating the recipients, Ms Tristanne Scott-Durairajah, the University’s Associate Director Partnerships and Learning Abroad, said the six students exemplified cultural understanding, academic excellence and leadership.
“From our perspective we’re extremely confident that their upcoming experiences will not only contribute to their personal and professional growth but also strengthen the bonds between Australia and our regional neighbours."
The New Colombo Plan Scholarship recipients will join a cohort of scholars who have gone on to make significant contributions to their respective academic fields and communities.
The program's emphasis on fostering cross-cultural collaboration and global citizenship aligns with the broader goals of creating a more interconnected and collaborative world.
