The next generation of Tasmanian football talent were recently put through their paces at The Shed for a high-performance testing day.
About 24 youth footballers, identified as high-priority athletes for future draft processes, attended the session delivered in partnership with the Tasmania Devils.
Participants undertook a range of physical assessments that track development areas including power and agility, as well as screening markers linked to strength, function and injury risk.
“Importantly, the day also provided a real-world learning opportunity for our students,” Dr Nathan Pitchford, senior lecturer in the School of Health Sciences said.
“Students from the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and the Master of Physiotherapy worked alongside Devils staff to help deliver testing and screening protocols and collect performance data.
“Under the guidance of experienced strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists and physiotherapists, students applied classroom learning in a professional environment and built practical skills that support future employment pathways.”
The session was run as part of the Devils Academy camp in Launceston.
