Tasmanian Government-related entities (GREs), such as Aurora, TasWater and TasNetworks, are required under new national disclosure obligations, along with other businesses and organisations over a certain size, to report annually against a range of climate scenarios.
The climate scenario development process saw the TPE collaborate deeply with the Tasmanian GREs to produce a set of four climate scenarios based on two potential future temperatures and varied Australian and Tasmanian government approaches. The work was grounded in climate science, but produced scenarios that are not exhaustive or predictions of the future.
The scenarios are a tool to help GREs understand their potential climate-related risks and opportunities, strengthen strategic-planning and support compliance requirements. Ultimately, they are a shared resource to support consistent climate risk assessment and reporting across Tasmanian entities.
