The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice provides a practical, skills-based introduction to the dynamic field of Information and Communication Technology.

Designed to help you develop relevant, up-to-date capabilities aligned with industry needs, the course strengthens your ability to contribute effectively in technical or support roles across a range of ICT areas. Whether you are looking to upskill, pivot into a new role, or enhance your career prospects, this course equips you with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to take the next step in your ICT journey.

On graduating from the Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice, you may choose to build on your achievements and expand your skills and knowledge by continuing into the Diploma of ICT Professional Practice or the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, with credit for the units you have already completed.

Study without tuition fees in 2026

For domestic students, the Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice is offered with 100% tuition fee scholarship for students commencing in 2026. This means you pay NO tuition fees!

  • 1 Identify and explain industry standard principles, tools, techniques, and processes for creating ICT software and system solutions.
  • 2 Design and develop ICT solutions in accordance with professional practice and industry standards.

This certificate is your entry point into the ICT industry. It’s designed for you if you want a flexible way to start a technology career without committing to a full degree. You can step into entry-level roles in ICT support, operations, or junior technical positions, gaining the skills to work confidently with industry-standard technologies and systems.

You can also use this course as a springboard to further study, such as the Diploma of ICT Professional Practice or the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, which will open the door to more advanced roles and long-term career opportunities.

Course structure

The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice is a 4-unit course that students can complete within one semester full time or 1 year part time to complete.

Entry requirements

Applicants who have completed secondary education.

  • This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process.
  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants with previous higher education study:

  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) or completed the university preparatory program or equivalent.

Applicants with previous TAFE/VET study:

  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed Certificate III or above.

Applications on the basis of work or life experience:

  • This course accepts applications based on work or life experience.
  • Applicants who have not completed senior secondary, tertiary, or TAFE/VET study, but who have relevant work and life experience can complete a personal competency statement.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.

Commonwealth Supported Place indicative annual fee: $4,656

How is this calculated?

This is an estimate. The calculation is based on the average full-time enrolment for this course in 2025. All figures are indicative only for 2026. Actual tuition fees will depend on specific unit enrolment, and are subject to annual increases each year. You can find the complete fee details for each unit of study on the individual unit pages. HECS-HELP loans

You may be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.

Domestic scholarships

The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice is available with 100% HECS tuition fee and SSAF scholarship for eligible domestic students studying in 2026. This means you can have NO fees to pay.

Fee scholarship details

For domestic students studying in 2026, we are pleased to offer this degree with a 100% HECS fee and SSAF scholarship. This scholarship is not available for OUA students.

Eligibility

This scholarship is valid for students admitted and commencing this course in 2026 provided the eligibility criteria are met. If you are eligible, the HECS and SSAF scholarship will be automatically applied upon enrolment. This scholarship is valid for units offered in 2026 only.

  1. You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident (i.e. eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place [CSP]).
  2. You are enrolled in the Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice and commence study in 2026.
  3. You must be enrolled in a minimum of one unit and must remain enrolled until after the University Census Date relevant to the semester of study. If you are on an approved Leave of Absence (LOA), you are exempt from this requirement for the duration of your approved LOA.

If I'm eligible, when will my scholarship be applied?

If eligible, we will endeavour to apply your scholarship within 14 days of your enrolment, and it will be applied no later than census day of your commencing study period. This can mean that between your enrolment and the scholarship being applied, you may see the full unit cost, including SSAF, reflected in eStudent.
