Diploma of Information and Communication Technology (P1T)

• 1 Apply industry standard principles, tools, techniques, and processes to create and maintain ICT software and systems.
• 2 Design and implement efficient solutions with consideration to securing and managing data and information
• 3 Communicate with stakeholders to create ICT solutions in accordance with industry standards.

The units within the Diploma of Information and Communication Technology integrate real-world learning tasks and hands-on, practical experience. The course stresses authentic, high-impact learning. Units involve groupwork problem solving, and all coursework is aligned with in-demand industry-certification skills.

Schools Recommendation Program

Australian year 12 students can apply for this course via our Schools Recommendation Program. Rather than an ATAR, your application is based on a recommendation by your school teachers. This can factor in your year 11 results, an assessment of your capabilities, and other considerations.

Through the program, you can receive and accept an offer prior to completing year 12. You will still need to finish your year 12 studies – including any exams – to commence your studies.

If you don’t receive an offer for this course through the Schools Recommendation Program, you will be re-assessed for a higher preference offer once your ATAR is released.

Applicants who have completed secondary education

• This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process.
• To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants with previous higher education study

• To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) or completed the university preparatory program or equivalent

Applicants with previous TAFE/VET study

• To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed Certificate III or above.

Applications on the basis of work or life experience

• This course accepts applications based on work or life experience.
• Applicants who have not completed senior secondary, tertiary, or TAFE/VET study, but who have relevant work and life experience can complete a personal competency statement.

Credit for a maximum of 4 units of study will be provided upon completion of an Undergraduate Certificate or TAFE Certificate IV or above in ICT (or an equivalent field).

Students can articulate into the BICT with 100 credit points for prior learning.
