Eucalyptus Trees

Saturday 23rd March is

National Eucalypt Day

In the lead-up to this auspicious day, the University of Tasmania will join organisations across Australia for a week of celebrations of Australia’s iconic eucalypts.   The School of Natural Sciences, the ARC Training Centre for Forest Value and the Morris Miller Library are teaming up to bring four days of colourful displays and activities to the Hobart community.

Make some time to wander up to the foyer of the Life Sciences Building in Sandy Bay, where you will find a vibrant display of all-things-Eucalyptus, from scientific posters, historical documents, wood products and weird gum nuts to medicinal products and exotic beverages.

Visit the Morris Miller Library to see historical specimens from the Tasmanian Herbarium displayed alongside rarely seen illustrations from the University of Tasmania’s Rare Books Collection.

The university’s festivities will culminate at lunchtime on Friday 22nd March, 12:30-1:30 pm, with a tour of notable eucalypts growing in the gardens of the Sandy Bay campus, guided by world-renown eucalypt biologists, Professor Brad Potts and Dr Rob Wiltshire.  The tour will start from the big bushy blue gum at the top of the Churchill Avenue overpass.

Displays in the Life Sciences Building and Morris Miller Library will be open for viewing from Tuesday 19th until Friday 22nd March.
