You may find the following language items useful when you take part in a discussion.

What functions do they perform? Can you think of more examples?

Function	Language items
Giving opinions	I think/believe... In my opinion... I personally think/believe... Not everyone will agree with me... Excuse me, may I interrupt? May I say/add something here?
Finishing what you want to say	May I just finish? I’ll come to that in a moment
Emphasizing	I’d like to point out... Can I draw your attention to... I’m not sure what you mean... In other words... For example... For instance...
Considering alternatives	Have you considered...? What about...?
Asking for opinion	What do you think?
Agreeing	That’s true
