Meet Melissa Rogers

Melissa started playing the piano at the age of five, and still loves music. Throughout her school years she studied piano, flute and composition and went on to pursue her passion for music and teaching at tertiary level. Melissa obtained her AMusA and LMusA Diplomas with Distinction and, in 2012, completed her Master of Arts (research) focusing on aural skills and composition. Also that year she was awarded an Associate Diploma of Composition. Her piano compositions have been broadcast on national radio and she enjoys composing dedicational works for special people, events and ensembles.
Melissa has worked as a secondary teacher in Lismore, Erina, and is now settled in Launceston. In 2019 she completed a PhD in musicology from the University of New South Wales receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis. Her work was entitled Revisiting Alfred Hill (1869-1960): Examining Issues of Reception and Compositional Approach. Melissa is currently the Director of Music at Launceston Church Grammar School and is passionate about creating a joyful environment in which young musicians can flourish. She loves conducting and was the Musical Director for Cats in 2023 and in 2024 is working on a production of Strictly Ballroom. Melissa enjoys organising and performing in chamber music concerts, composing, visiting art galleries, practicing yoga, writing, reading, gardening and spending time with her children.
