Piano Masterclass with Shan Deng

Shan's heading to Devonport! This is your chance to work with Shan on whatever piece you're currently learning or polishing.

Shan is a highly accomplished performer and teacher, and is the Lecturer in piano and Coordinator of keyboard for the Discipline of Music at UTAS.

Join us for this FREE masterclass. Shan will work with pianists to improve aspects of their performance and technique, before opening up to questions and discussion. We might even convince her to give us a mini performance of her own!

Please note that senior students will be given preference (ie high school and Diploma candidates) but all are welcome as observers. Please bring a copy of your music on the day.

Limited places are available for masterclass performers and registrations must be received by Tuesday 29 April. Everyone who registers will be contacted via email to confirm arrangements so don't miss out on your chance to work with Shan. If you're a teacher who wants to register a large group of performers (ie more than 4) you're welcome to email us directly to help you save time.

Winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition’s Best Australian Pianist Prize, Shan Deng is a well-known Australian-Chinese pianist. Her successes include winning the keyboard final of the ABC Young Performer of the year award, and representing the Arts as a national finalist in the Young Australian of the Year.

Concert demands have taken Shan around the world, and she has performed in Australia, Asia, North America, South Africa and Europe. She has toured overseas as a soloist with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, and has appeared with most of the Australian Symphony Orchestras. Shan has been featured in numerous Australian, Chinese and South African radio and television programs.

Shan is currently Senior Lecturer in piano and co-ordinator of keyboard at the University of Tasmania. She has been awarded several grants from Australian Council for the Arts and Arts Tasmania to perform, commission, tour and further her musical knowledge in countries like China, Canada and Argentina.

Shan has released three CDs: Shan Deng Plays Chopin, Shan Deng Live and Conversations featuring Shan Deng on piano and Wei Deng on pipa. She regularly records for ABC Classic FM both in live performances and in studios for broadcasting.

Shan continues to support emerging performers in the community across many roles including as an Examiner for AMEB Tasmania.
