Simply enrol in your Grade 5 exam in SCORE. We'll send you (the Enroller) a unique discount code to use when you enrol for your Grade 1 Theory of Music Online Course - just enter it at checkout and you'll only pay half the usual enrolment fee.
Why theory is important
We know that understanding the theory can be a huge help when it comes to growing your skills and passion for music:
- You'll gain deeper insight into the composers' intentions and be able to better (and more easily) bring the dots to life.
- You'll be set up for success in your Grade 6 practical exam, where Grade 2 theory is a corequisite.
- If you're doing a Comprehensive Exam, your general knowledge discussion will benefit.
- Both instrumental and non-instrumental musical training strengthen connections among emotion-related regions of the brain.
Eligibility and Terms
- You'll need to enrol to complete your practical Grade 5 exam during 2025.
- All Classical music syllabuses are eligible (including for Leisure syllabuses).
- Discount offer is valid to the end of the calendar year so you'll need to enrol in your Online Course by 31 December, 2025.
- Your discount code is unique and can be used only once. It should not be shared or distributed.
- Any extensions to the Online Course will not be included in the discount offer - these are available but are the financial responsibility of the Enroller.
- Course use must comply with enrolment Ts and Cs (available on SCORE).
- A Theory of Music Exam enrolment is not included with the Course and must be enrolled for and purchased separately. Please note that, due to the integrity of the qualification, we're unable to offer a discount on the exam.
FAQs
Can I access this offer if I'm doing an exam other than Grade 5?
This offer is specifically for candidates preparing for their Grade 5 exam. Pairing G5 practical with G1 theory helps set up people for success in G6 (when G2 becomes a corequisite). That being said, we continue to keep the cost of our courses accessible to ensure no on misses out - no matter what stage you are on your instrument.
Will I still have access to everything in the Course?
You sure will! It's not a lite version so you'll have a full 12 months to all the learning material, plus unlimited use of the practice exam. If you want to find out more about what the Course includes, head to our information page on SCORE.
Is Grade 1 theory a corequisite for my Grade 5 practical exam?
No it's not. But we're really excited about being able to help you improve as a musician and to get you ready for Grade 6, when Grade 2 theory does become a corequisite.
Will I get a qualification or TCE points from the Course?
It's a course, not an exam, so it's designed to support your learning rather than test your knowledge. As such, it's not eligible for TCE Points. However, by the end of the Course, you should be ready to take your Grade 1 Theory of Music Exam and THAT is a qualification. It will also set you up to tackle Grade 2, and our theory exams across all syllabuses are eligible for bonus TCE points from Grade 2 upwards.
I'm a teacher - can I support my student through the Course?
You can absolutely use the Course as a learning tool. Our Courses have been designed by our theory experts. They're laid out in structured lessons and are staged to build upon previous concepts with the overall intention of being a teaching/learning tool. Since our Theory Courses were introduced, we've aimed to keep them accessible to support any learners who can't access or afford a teacher but we acknowledge that teachers are pretty special and can't be replaced - learning is always so much better when it's supported by a teacher. Also, if you're the Enroller, you have access to the Candidate's practice exam results. Plus, you can join them on their profile to step them through the lessons and add your own expertise in guiding them through the concepts.
I'm doing a Rockschool Grade 5 exam - can I still access this offer?
Rockschool has its own syllabus that aligns beautifully to the practical grades - Contemporary Music Theory - however this doesn't come with an online course. Having said that, if you have enrolled in your Grade 5 Rockschool exam and want to do the Grade 1 Theory of Music Online Course, please get in touch with the AMEB Tasmania office to request special access to this offer and we'll be happy to provide you with your own discount code.
