Bridging scales in remote sensing of vegetation stress

Earth Observation Research Theme Project

Overview

In his Future fellowship, Malenovsky, will address needs for sustainable ecosystem services for environmental change by developing operational upscaling algorithms for regional mapping of vegetation stress indicators from optical Earth observations of the latest space-borne missions. These new approaches, using modern computer radiative transfer models and unmanned aircraft systems called drones, will pave the way for regular satellite monitoring of plant health across extensive and inaccessible Australian and Antarctic areas.

More accurate and timely remote sensing maps of early stress symptoms will tell us when and where to protect ecological functions of wild natural systems and help us to sustain or even increase our agricultural food production.
