The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice offers you the opportunity to gain relevant, up-to-date skills and globally recognised certifications that differentiate you and increase your employability. Industry certifications will also facilitate a rapid lateral move into a defined discipline within the ICT industry if you have experience in other fields.
Led and managed by ICT academics that have years of experience in delivering distinctive, rewarding, and place-based learning experiences, the teaching environment aims to provide a university experience that is student-centred and personal, enabling you to realise your individual career goals.
On graduation from the Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice you may choose to build on your achievements and broaden your skills and knowledge further by continuing your study in the Diploma of ICT Professional Practice or the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology with credit for your units completed as part of the Certificate.

Information on Undergraduate Certificates beyond 2025
The Australian Government has currently determined that Undergraduate Certificates programs will not extend beyond 30 June 2025. This means that should they not be extended; you will need to complete all required units in 2024 to graduate with an Undergraduate Certificate before this deadline.
Should you not be able to complete all required units in 2024, we can support you to continue your study with us in another course where you will receive full credit for all the Undergraduate Certificate units completed so far. The alternate course options for this Undergraduate Certificate are listed in the Entry Requirements section below.

Entry requirements
For Domestic students
Applicants who have completed secondary education.
- This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process.
- To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.
Applicants with previous higher education study:
- To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) or completed the university preparatory program or equivalent.
Applicants with previous TAFE/VET study:
- To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed Certificate III or above.
Applications on the basis of work or life experience:
- This course accepts applications based on work or life experience.
- Applicants who have not completed senior secondary, tertiary, or TAFE/VET study, but who have relevant work and life experience can complete a personal competency statement.
Credit transfer
Any applicant that currently holds one or more of the certifications that is integrated into this course (e.g. through their own PD or through having taken one of the UTas, associated masterclasses) may be eligible for credit or recognition for prior learning upon application.
Articulation
Students can articulate into the DipICTProfPrac or the BICT with 50 credit points for prior learning.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Cost shouldn’t get in the way of you studying.
If you’re a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place in this course. This means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.
You may also be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.
