Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your studies online. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.
This 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time course is offered by the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at Launceston.

The BEnvSc(Hons) degree provides a pathway from undergraduate studies in environmental science to post-graduate research in environmental science or alternatively the opportunity for students to further develop and apply their skills on a research project in preparation for a career in environmental science.

The educational objective of the BEnvSc(Hons) degree is to equip students with the fundamental knowledge, skills, capabilities and awareness which are necessary for undertaking research in environmental science.  Students will receive advanced training and consequent in-depth knowledge within a particular discipline covered by environmental science.  Research techniques developed will assist candidates to gain entry to postgraduate studies or employment in research.

The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) degree leads to many opportunities for a career within government organisations, industrial companies, consultants, and community groups who seek environmental graduates for their research, analytical and computer skills which they can apply to the design and implementation of environmental assessment strategies, managing monitoring programs and reporting on compliance with environmental regulations.

Course structure

For Full Time Students:

Please enrol in Honours A (25%) and B (25%) in one semester and Honours C (25%) and D (25%) in the following semester.

For Part Time Students:

Please enrol in Honours A (25%) in one semester, followed by Honours B (25%) in the following semester and so on.

* Students enrol sequentially i.e. Unit A, then Unit B irrespective of the semester in which they start.

To unify the students within the BEnvSc(Hons), each of the Honours units will have the same structure:

  • 12.5% Desktop study of a current environmental issue
  • 12.5% Research funding application
  • 10% Laboratory notebook
  • 10% Research seminar
  • 55% Research thesis, including literature review
  • Students will also be expected to attend a research methods workshop, present a preliminary seminar on their research topic, and attend a seminar program in environmental science.

Articulation

Graduates from other institutions with degrees acceptable to Faculty may be accepted into the Honours course.

Graduates of the BEnvSc(Hons) course may enrol for a higher degree by research.

Entry requirements

A candidate for the degree of BEnvSc(Hons) requires the permission of the Faculty and shall have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Science at this University or an equivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution.  Candidates will be expected to obtain at least a credit average in their third year units.

Candidature is subject to appropriate supervision being available for the chosen thesis topic.

Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Science with Honours will have met the Admission requirements as detailed above.

Graduates of the BEnvSc(Hons) degree may enrol for a higher degree by research.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students

2020 Total Course Fee (international students): $33,950 AUD*.

Course cost based on a rate of $33,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
