With community pharmacy in Australia undergoing a transition, more pharmacists are moving into clinical environments – either alongside general practitioners, or running chronic disease management programs.

These new roles, with more patient-focused primary care, require community pharmacists to have robust clinical knowledge, and an understanding of pharmacotherapeutics at an advanced level.

  • 1 Devise effective search strategies to return relevant scholarly and grey pharmacotherapeutic literature.
  • 2 Critically evaluate pharmacotherapeutic literature and guidelines to inform clinical decision making.
  • 3 Justify pharmacotherapeutic decisions to improve health outcomes.
  • 4 Present pharmacotherapeutic information through a range of different mediums.

Career outcomes

Pharmacy practice is changing with time. Pharmacists are becoming more involved in day to day management of complex diseases including working as clinical consultants managing drug therapy regimens, providing leadership in clinical trials and research in pharmaceutical industry and healthcare organisations, and providing professional clinical services within community pharmacy settings.

This course will broaden your pharmacy career opportunities. It can also act as a pathway to the Master of Clinical Pharmacy.

Course structure

Students must successfully complete 100cp (8 units) which comprises of:

2 core units (25cp)

6 core option units (75cp)

 

Entry requirements

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

  • An AQF 7 or above Bachelor level degree in Pharmacy from an Australian Pharmacy Council APC accredited undergraduate program from UTAS or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent.
  • Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country. AHPRA registrations will be confirmed and applicants with conditions or notations will be referred to the School for review.
     

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country. 

International applicants are required to meet the English Language test requirement of IELTS 7.0 with no individual band less than 7.0.

Students can articulate from the M5C Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy into this course with 50 Credit Points advanced standing.

Students can articulate to the M7F Master of Clinical Pharmacy from this course with 100 Credit points advanced standing.

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy is an exit award for units successfully passed that meet the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy.
 

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.

Commonwealth Supported Place indicative annual fee: $9,536

HECS-HELP loans

You may be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.

International students

2027 annual international student tuition fee: $35,450 AUD

The standard year of study for this course is 100 credit points.

Indicative total tuition fee for international students: $ 35,450 AUD.

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
