VAN GOGH & JAPAN

Image: Pere Tanguy (Father Tanguy), 1887-88 (oil on canvas), Gogh, Vincent van (1853-90) / Musee Rodin, Paris, France / Peter Willi / Bridgeman Images.

The School of Creative Arts and Media and the State Cinema are hosting another film documentary and special presentation, VAN GOGH & JAPAN.

“I envy the Japanese” Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo. In the exhibition on which this film is based – VAN GOGH & JAPAN at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam – one can see why. Though Vincent van Gogh never visited Japan it is the country that had the most profound influence on him and his art.

Following Phil Grabsky’s documentary, join Jan Hogan (Head of Art, University of Tasmania) for a discussion which expands on the film’s themes about one of the greatest artists that ever lived. Presented by the State Cinema and University of Tasmania.

State Cinema $20.50 (admission includes film and presentation)
