Summary:A behind the scenes look at this year's Ten Days on the Island opening event.
Hundreds of participants, artists and collaborators have together worked for months on this epic community performance, bringing together Dave mangenner Gough's vision for the opening event of the 2021 Ten Days on the Island festival. In the University of Tasmania Makers' Space Gallery overlooking Bass Strait, a new exhibition will go behind the scenes to shine a light on how the event was developed and brought to life.
Making mapali will explore the Tasmanian Aboriginal narratives and dances that guided the development of the dawn gathering event. The exhibition will take visitors behind the scenes and inside the process of developing this large-scale community performance.
Making mapali is an exhibition about the conception and creation of mapali Dawn Gathering, and features key elements from the performance. Through this exhibition you can learn about the importance of key moments in the palawa creation story of lutruwita/Tasmania and understand how the artists developed their ideas to bring the mapali Dawn Gathering event to life.
