For two decades, Ten Days on the Island (Ten Days) has celebrated Tasmania's unique identity and offered a platform to profile Tasmania's innovative, creative and resourceful character.  In 2022, Ten Days brings the exclusive premiere of the Living Memory National Photographic Portrait Prize (NPPP) to Burnie. The annual exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.

To celebrate the exhibition in Burnie, the University of Tasmania is partnering with Ten Days to present an engaging evening of lively, creative discussion in two parts:

Part 1. In conversation with the NPPP exhibition curator

5:40pm - 6:10pm

  • A live, online presentation by exhibition curator Sandra Bruce, directly from the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. Sandra discusses this year's NPPP selection, the quirks of this year's NPPP, what were the deciding factors on what was presented (and what wasn't).

Part 2.  "Seeing Me, Seeing You"

6:10pm - 7:15pm

  • A panel discussion with Tasmanian photography experts, on what makes a good photographic portrait, what portraiture can teach us about our identity as an individual and a community and how the genre has evolved

Registrations are essential for catering and COVID compliance.
