Additional Criteria

    Undergraduate

    Undergraduate students have a lot of flexibility within their degree structure, but you need to be aware that:

  • in some courses exchange is not permitted in your final semester;
  • most degrees do not permit you to take an honours year on exchange;
  • going on exchange in your final semester may affect your progression into an honours program;
  • double degrees are common at the University of Tasmania, but rare overseas, this might limit the units that you are able to take at a host university;
  • due to strict degree accreditation standards: Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy and Paramedicine do not allow semester or year-long exchange programs - while short-term programs may be possible; these students usually undertake placements instead.
  • Postgraduate

  • Postgraduate exchange has a few more restrictions and is more difficult to arrange due to limited exchange places and potential curriculum incompatibility.
  • North American university postgraduate exchange programs often only accept students for a September intake (at the start of their academic year).
  • Always consult with your supervisor/degree coordinator - before applying for exchange - to see if it’s possible to go on exchange as a postgraduate student.
