Last days to register for dementia care research lecture tour

Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre researcher Dr Helen Courtney-Pratt will be the keynote speaker at the Hobart leg of the NHMRC National Institute for Dementia Research (NNIDR) 2019 National Public Lecture Tour.

Taking place in all Australian states during Brain Awareness Week, the tour will engage leaders in dementia research and aged care to discuss the significant and growing challenge of improving quality of life and quality of dementia care.

The theme for the 2019 Tour,’ Applying the latest dementia care research’, will explore dementia care and how the latest research can help people living with dementia live longer, and well, at home and in their local community.

Dr Courtney-Pratt specialises in the development of dementia friendly communities, working together with people living with dementia to move toward inclusion and the respecting of rights and citizenship of all.

Following the keynote address, an expert panel presentation and discussion will take place where people with dementia, their carers and families will engage with researchers and consider care strategies applicable to their situations and communities.

Hobart panel experts will include: Dr Kate-Ellen Elliott (Senior Researcher, Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre); Professor Jenn Scott – (Director Clinical Psychology Program, School of Medicine, University of Tasmania); Dr Shannon Klekociuk – (Lecturer, Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre) and Julie Andersson (Community Planning and Development Officer, Clarence City Council)
