Impact and expertise
Accurate and up-to-date geospatial data is critical for earth observation, and drones offer an exciting platform to fill the scale gap between field and satellites observations. Since 2009, TerraLuma has advanced the development of drone remote sensing for environmental monitoring in Australia and internationally. TerraLuma’s research has had impact across a range of applications including ecosystem and biodiversity monitoring, forestry applications, precision agriculture, and sensor integration and calibration.
Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in drone sensor integration, image processing, and quantitative remote sensing, focusing on high-resolution, on-demand earth observation using drones. We operate and integrate a range of sensors – including RGB, multispectral, hyperspectral, thermal, and LiDAR – enabling detailed and scalable environmental monitoring across diverse ecosystems. We have developed comprehensive processing workflows to convert raw drone data into analysis-ready products. Our protocols support direct georeferencing, orthorectification, radiometric and atmospheric corrections, and co-alignment techniques of optical imagery. We develop and apply machine learning techniques for feature detection and generation of high-level data products from images and point clouds.
By integrating cutting-edge sensor technologies with advanced image analytics, TerraLuma continues to be at the forefront of drone remote sensing research for earth observation in Australia and globally.
