Blackmans Bay Primary School

Blackmans Bay Primary School is situated in the seaside suburb of Blackmans Bay, south of Hobart. The school grounds are a rich natural environment with an abundance of native flora and fauna. Blackmans Bay Primary is a K – 6, co-educational school that provides a rich and inclusive environment for all learners. The Arts – drama, music and art are highly valued and connect strongly with the school's values. As a school community, Blackmans Bay Primary supports, nurtures and extends each individual’s capacity for thinking, communicating and accepting responsibility for themselves and their place in the world. Blackmans Bay Primary School was the pilot school for HealthLit4Kids in Term 3, 2017.

Summary of Focus Areas

Food and Nutrition (FN): Healthy lunches; Awareness of healthy choices and nutrition; School garden involving growing, tending and eating veges from school garden and plants in the classroom; Nudie lunches and raw food.

Mental Health and Wellbeing (MH): Mindfulness incorporating creativity and physical movement; School navigation and awareness of staff 'who can help' if students feel unsafe or uncertain; Making good health decisions.

Health Benefits of Physical Activity (including RE) (HBPA): Stretching; Mindful movement; Gardening; Favourite sports and outdoor play.
