Advanced Practice courses have been co-designed with the health industry to specifically meet the constantly evolving needs of the health system. All levels feature a strong inter-disciplinary approach that will provide students with knowledge and skills to expand their contribution to healthcare and meet professional development requirements with flexible and online study. The Advanced Practice courses provide a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, in addition to electives and choice units from sixteen specialisations to broaden health system knowledge.

To support the launch, we’re offering a free, online masterclass series so you can experience first-hand what our expert lecturers can offer.

Webinar topics cover the breadth of our Advanced Practice specialisations and choice units, as well as the core topics of leadership, and critical thinking. There are options to explore a new topic, or dive into something you are already familiar with and expand your knowledge.

Advanced Practice

If you’re a healthcare professional looking to further your work with clients affected by addictive disorders or develop a stronger clinical understanding and skillset around addiction, then this course can provide the knowledge, awareness and skills to do so. This course has been developed with feedback from experienced healthcare workers, topic experts and non-health addiction professionals to ensure your studies provide you with a well-rounded and contextual understanding of addiction and addictive behaviours.

Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies for Health Professionals (H5G)

The rising prevalence of dementia is creating new challenges and a pressing need for change in the way our systems and practices support people who live with dementia – equip yourself with the expertise to lead transformation, based on the latest evidence.

These courses are aimed at graduates and professionals currently working within or building their expertise in a field related to dementia. When you study these courses, you’ll build a comprehensive understanding of dementia from the perspectives of individuals, families, communities, health care systems and governments, and cover the neurobiology of dementia, including pathology, biomarkers and therapeutics.

Your personal perspectives will be highlighted throughout the course in assessments which link acquired knowledge to individual contexts, making the program relevant and up-to-date.

Diploma of Dementia Care Postgraduate Dementia

These courses are designed for people who are passionate about helping people and improving the way our health services are delivered to patients – whether you are a healthcare professional, a manager or a health executive. When you study these courses, you will develop advanced problem solving and analytical skills to help identify and resolve service delivery blockages and inefficiencies that impact patient care. Designed with busy professionals in mind, we offer part-time and online study options – so you can balance study around your work and life commitments.

Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma will enable you to articulate to a Masters program, should you wish to continue your higher education studies.

Advanced Nursing

Please note, courses in this section are not offered in conjunction with the employee scholarships available.

University of Tasmania HECS fee scholarships or fee discounts will be available to partner employees who meet the required HECS fee scholarship fee discount eligibility requirements. Students are required to retain their HECS fee scholarship or fee discount eligibility status for the duration of the course.

The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) is a compulsory fee for student services and amenities of a non-academic nature such as employment and career advice, financial advice, childcare, food services and sporting and recreational activities. In accordance with the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) Act 2011and the Administration Guidelines 2012 the University of Tasmania determined that a Student Services and Amenities Fee be introduced from Semester 2 2012.

• Personal statement – outlining where and for how long you have worked in your current position.

Once your application has been submitted and assessed, an offer will be made to you.

You can accept your offer via your e-application account.

Scholarship supported places for some courses are available. If you are eligible for a partner scholarship and you have accepted your offer:

1. Log into eStudent
2. Click on Forms
3. Click on Health Partner Employee Declaration
4. Complete the fields to nominate your health partner/employer and submit

Please note, to get your scholarship you need to submit the Health Partner Employee Declaration prior to payment due date for the study period you are studying in (e.g. semester 1, semester 2). The payment due date is 14 days prior to the census date for the study period.

If the form is submitted late, or missed, the scholarship will not apply until the following study period (e.g. next semester) and you will be responsible for any unit fees incurred. Fee scholarships cannot be backdated under any circumstances, and are only submitted once per course enrolment.

If you are eligible for a partner scholarship and you have accepted your offer:

1. Enter eStudent
2. Navigate to Forms
3. Navigate to Health Partner Employee Declaration
4. Complete the fields to nominate your health partner/employer and submit

Yes, you will retain your current partner fee scholarship until completion of your program or early graduation (whichever comes first), as long as you continue to meet all scholarship eligibility requirements detailed above.

While you may be able to defer your course, it is not guaranteed that your existing partner scholarship will be available at your new start date. Please note that if you defer your course, you will be doing so at the risk of losing or having a different partner scholarship for your future studies. You may also need to reapply for your partner scholarship for your new commencement date.

If your employer changes throughout your studies, you’ll need to submit a new Health Partner Employee Declaration form with your updated employer details.

Please note, this may change the partner scholarship that you’re eligible for, and we may need to amend your fees to reflect this change.

Once you’ve submitted your Heath Partner Declaration form, your partner scholarship will be applied to your student account within 7-10 business days. You’ll receive an email once this happens and will be asked to log into eStudent to view the balance of your fees left owing and make payment (if applicable). Your fees invoice will show you the standard tuition price for each unit and then the scholarship amount offset against this. If you can’t see that your scholarship has been applied, email us at Uni.Connect@utas.edu.au and we’ll investigate for you.

Yes. Even though you’re eligible for a partner scholarship, you’re still required to complete an eCAF as this is a government reporting requirement for students studying in a Commonwealth Supported Place.

If you’ve already completed some relevant study, you may be eligible to apply for credit that may count towards the requirements for the degree you are applying for.
