Applicants must have practised as a Registered Nurse for at least six months full-time equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to the start of the Course.

Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply.

Safety in Practice Requirements for Child and Family Health
This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before the census date of the first semester of your Course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately from the course admission application.

The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement-based and is only available for nurses in Tasmania and some LHDs in NSW.

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing (Specialisation) articulates directly with the Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation), which in turn articulates with the Master of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation).

This pathway at the Graduate Diploma level will allow you to be eligible to apply for endorsement as a Registered Nurse Prescriber.

This pathway is accredited by ANMAC and approved by NMBA.

You must complete the following four units as part of your Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing: CNA672 Evidence-Informed Practice, CSA524 Medical Principles for Advanced Nursing and Midwifery, CNA533 Advanced Health Assessment, and CNA608 Clinical Perspectives of Therapeutic Medication Management. Endorsement as an RN Prescriber is also subject to the following additional regulatory requirements:

• Current General Registration as a Registered Nurse with no conditions or undertakings relevant to prescribing practice.
• Practice Experience: Equivalent of three years full-time post-initial registration (approximately 5,000 hours) within the preceding six years.

To articulate to the course, students will be required to remain in the same specialty area of study.

You’ll learn to provide evidence-informed, person-centred care across the renal health continuum, including prevention, early intervention, dialysis therapies, transplant care, and end-of-life management. This specialisation integrates foundational and advanced renal nursing principles with reflective practice and critical thinking to address the growing global burden of kidney disease. You’ll explore the physiological, psychological, and social impacts of renal conditions, while developing leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient advocacy skills. You’ll also apply innovative and sustainable strategies to improve outcomes for individuals undergoing complex renal treatments or living with chronic kidney disease, and critically evaluate current and emerging practices to transform patient care and enhance overall health outcomes.

Important note when applying for this specialisation

You must work in a dialysis unit or renal specialty ward in order to undertake this specialisation.

Available to study in the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing, Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing, or Master of Advanced Nursing.

Applicants are required to have:

• Completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent with a credit grade average in the same specialisation
• Practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months fulltime equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the Course in the same specialisation.

Also, applicants must provide:

• Evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.
• A personal statement, CV or resume which states the area in which the applicant works as an RN and for the length of time.
• Evidence of confirmation of employment.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply. The Course is not available to midwives who do not have a nursing qualification identified in their curriculum vitae.

To articulate to the Course, students will be required to remain in the same specialty area.

The H6M Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation) and H6F Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Specialisation) articulate to the Master of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation) with 100 credit points of advanced standing.
