- 1 Synthesise and apply advanced theoretical and technical disciplinary knowledge in a specialist area of nursing, incorporating reflective and evidence-informed practice.

Course structure
Students are required to complete 50 credit points (cpts) from a specialisation.
Some postgraduate nursing specialisations involve essential tasks and endorsement of clinical skills or capabilities that are required to successfully participate in the learning activities and to meet the learning outcomes of the course; as a result, students must work in the specialty. The specialisations that require the student to work in the area are listed below:
• Child and Family Health Nursing - The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement-based and is only available for nurses in certain geographical areas, specifically Tasmania, some Local Health Districts in NSW, and WA Country Health sites (eligible staff only).
• Critical Care Nursing– must work in an Intensive Care Unit
• Emergency Nursing- must work in an Emergency Department
• High Acuity Nursing- must work in an area with exposure to very ill/deteriorating patients; this could be a general medical/surgical ward, emergency department, or urgent care unit.
• Perioperative Nursing- must work in Operating Theatres/Rooms.
• Perianaesthesia Nursing- must work in Anaesthetic and or postanaesthetic (Recovery) units
• Cardiovascular Nursing-must work in cardiac specialty ward, cardiac cath lab, cardiac intervention or cardiac care unit.
• Neonatal Care – must work in Neonatal Intensive Care or Special Care Nursery.
• Paediatric Nursing- must work with paediatric patients
• Renal Nursing- must work in a dialysis unit or renal specialty ward

Entry requirements
Applicants must have practised as a Registered Nurse for at least six months full-time equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to the start of the Course.
Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.
Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply.
Safety in Practice Requirements for Child and Family Health
This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before the census date of the first semester of your Course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately from the course admission application.
Child and Family Health
The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement-based and is only available for nurses in Tasmania and some LHDs in NSW.

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing (Specialisation) articulates directly with the Graduate Diploma of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation), which in turn articulates with the Master of Advanced Nursing (Specialisation).

Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.
