Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies for Health Professionals (H5G)

Advanced Practice courses have been co-designed with the health industry to specifically meet the constantly evolving needs of the health system. All levels feature a strong inter-disciplinary approach that will provide students with knowledge and skills to expand their contribution to healthcare and meet professional development requirements with flexible and online study. The Advanced Practice courses provide a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, in addition to electives and choice units from seven specialisations to broaden health system knowledge.

The rising prevalence of dementia is creating new challenges and a pressing need for change in the way our systems and practices support people who live with dementia – equip yourself with the expertise to lead transformation, based on the latest evidence.

These courses are aimed at graduates and professionals currently working within or building their expertise in a field related to dementia. When you study these courses, you’ll build a comprehensive understanding of dementia from the perspectives of individuals, families, communities, health care systems and governments, and cover the neurobiology of dementia, including pathology, biomarkers and therapeutics.

Developed by the same industry experts, our short courses focus on building applied skills and ensure you complete your course with knowledge you can implement into your daily work practices.

Short courses

The Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management is designed for experienced Registered Nurses looking to develop knowledge and enhanced practical skills in therapeutic medication management. Using an ‘across the life span’ approach, concepts such as prescribing, administering, monitoring, and evaluating medications in accordance with Commonwealth and State legislation and policy will be explored.

You will also gain an understanding of the differences between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, how medications are absorbed, distributed, and metabolised, and learn to develop individual patient medication management plans.

Study details

Students must meet entry requirements of the course they are applying for, as stated in the Course and Unit Handbook. Please navigate via the course links above to find out more. In addition to this, to be eligible for a HECS fee waiver or fee discount you will also need to be a current employee of our partner employer. When submitting your application, you will need to include a copy of your most recent payslip, or a copy of your current staff ID card, as proof of employment.

Please note, HECS fee waiver or fee discount supported places for all courses are only available to permanent residents of Australia.

Once you’ve accepted your offer, you can enrol in your units.1416724

Important

Submit your e-CAF. Even if you have a partner scholarship (fee-waiver), you are still required to submit a Commonwealth Assistance Form (e-CAF) and you will need to select the ‘upfront payment’ option. Don’t forget to view and accept your T&Cs.

Remember

You will need your Student ID number, email address, login and password to access eStudent, MyLO and webmail. Log onto webmail to set up your email account and familiarise yourself with MyLO. An online orientation unit is available in MyLO two weeks before semester commences, it has helpful study tips and activities to practice using MyLO.

If you are eligible for a partner scholarship and you have accepted your offer:

  4. Complete the fields to nominate your health partner/employer and submit

Yes, you will retain your current partner fee scholarship until completion of your program or early graduation (whichever comes first), as long as you continue to meet all scholarship eligibility requirements detailed above.

While you may be able to defer your course, it is not guaranteed that your existing partner scholarship will be available at your new start date. Please note that if you defer your course, you will be doing so at the risk of losing or having a different partner scholarship for your future studies. You may also need to reapply for your partner scholarship for your new commencement date.

If your employer changes throughout your studies, you’ll need to submit a new Health Partner Employee Declaration form with your updated employer details.

Please note, this may change the partner scholarship that you’re eligible for, and we may need to amend your fees to reflect this change.

Once you’ve submitted your Heath Partner Declaration form, your partner scholarship will be applied to your student account within 7-10 business days. You’ll receive an email once this happens and will be asked to log into eStudent to view the balance of your fees left owing and make payment (if applicable). Your fees invoice will show you the standard tuition price for each unit and then the scholarship amount offset against this. If you can’t see that your scholarship has been applied, email us at U.Connect@utas.edu.au and we’ll investigate for you.

Yes. Even though you’re eligible for a partner scholarship, you’re still required to complete an eCAF as this is a government reporting requirement for students studying in a Commonwealth Supported Place.
