The Bachelor of Agriculture and Agribusiness prepares you to work across the full span of modern agriculture, from production through to processing, markets and enterprise leadership. Delivered by the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), this degree is shaped by industry needs and combines agricultural systems knowledge with food innovation, business, economics, leadership and supply‑chain understanding.
Based in Northern Tasmania’s established agrifood precinct, your learning is embedded in a region known for intensive production, food processing and agribusiness activity. Integrated industry partnerships and structured work‑integrated learning in third year ensure your studies remain closely aligned with contemporary practice.
Purpose‑built facilities at Inveresk (The Shed), together with the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture’s state‑wide research footprint, connect theory to application across farming systems, food quality, product development and enterprise management. You’ll develop the capability to lead, adapt and innovate across complex agrifood operations.
Graduates move into roles across agribusiness management, rural finance, food processing, supply‑chain operations and entrepreneurship. With agriculture and agrifood continuing to expand and modernise globally, this degree prepares you for careers that start locally and extend well beyond Tasmania.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have created a complementary, optional major available across most of our flexible bachelor's degrees.
In the major, explore interdisciplinary knowledge and skills that underpin the development of sustainable societies and solutions. Informed by international and local research, practice, and theory, this major allows you to develop specialist expertise across the physical and social sciences and humanities, emphasising student-led and problem-based learning.
It provides the frameworks for developing sustainability-oriented solutions in a range of fields and is relevant to a wide range of careers.

The Undergraduate Certificate is offered with a 100% HECS fee scholarship, meaning you pay no tuition fees.
The first step in your agribusiness education
Developed in consultation with industry experts, including Enchanted Isle Farms and Tasmanian Agriculture Productivity Group, this course will teach you the essential business skills to strive in the agribusiness industry, including people management, finance and marketing.
You’ll gain insight and commercial awareness of agribusiness industries, explore the importance of agribusiness management planning, and learn how agribusiness managers integrate the outputs of planning into their business management and operations.
This course is a great foundation for those wishing to enter the agriculture industry, or a stepping stone for those currently working in agriculture who are seeking to progress in their career.
There are also Commonwealth supported places available, meaning domestic students can study with their tuition fees subsidised by the Australian Government.
Study without tuition fees
Domestic students commencing in 2026 are eligible to receive a 100% HECS fee scholarship. The HECS fee scholarship will be automatically applied on enrolment. Visit the course page for details.

Further study options
If you successfully complete the Undergraduate Certificate in Agribusiness, you can choose to continue your studies in the Diploma of Agribusiness. You may receive up to 50 credit points of advanced standing, equivalent to 4 units, towards your diploma degree.

Career opportunities
For those graduates new to agribusiness, roles including trainee positions, team leaders, field officers and researchers are likely.
For graduates already working in agriculture, this degree will enable you to progress from assistant positions to managerial roles, or become a field officer, research team member or salesperson.
Potential types of employers:
- Upstream of the farm: suppliers of seed, fertiliser, chemicals, machinery, stockfeed, labour, finance, business advisory, transport, consultancy, and specialist services such as harvesting contractors.
- Primary production: cropping, horticulture, animal-based enterprises, aquaculture, pharmaceuticals, wineries, farm-based tourism.
- Downstream of the farm: processors and value-adders, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, transport and storage operations, logistics, consultants.
