'Vietnam Bamboo' project time lapse video

In June 2017, 13 undergraduate architecture and agriculture students, and 3 staff, travelled to Vietnam to explore the use of bamboo for water and soil remediation and to develop prototypes for bamboo for structures for cultural and agricultural community buildings.

The visit involved workshops with bamboo researchers and traditional bamboo masters, and culminated with the construction of full scale prototypes for small scale bamboo buildings with a local farming community in Central Vietnam.

Vietnam bamboo is a partnership between the University of Tasmania (UTAS) School of Architecture & Design (A&D), Cave Urban (Sydney architects and bamboo specialists), the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), and the Phu An Bamboo Museum and Conservation Village in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam.

The project involves collaboration with universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Danang, drawing on technical research into bamboo, and knowledge of local landscape architecture and bamboo design practices, both traditional and contemporary.
