Master of Architecture student, Emily Hunt, has been selected as the winner of the 2019 Mount Nelson Award. Emily stood out from the crowd with her keen interest in both the academic and cultural aspects of architecture, having spent a semester studying in Poland, undertaken international units in Italy, and volunteered her architectural skills to assist developing communities in Nepal.
Emily has also been involved in a number of local initiatives, including but not limited to: sharing her design knowledge as a Student Learning Mentor in the Drop-In space, contributing to The Local Project – an online platform that provides access to quality design projects, and volunteering her time at Open House Launceston – a program enabling the community to experience Launceston’s most exciting buildings. Emily’s breadth of contribution and demonstrated commitment to her field ultimately won over the Broad of Trustees.
The Mount Nelson Award was established by students, for students and aims to promote and develop excellence in the Higher Education sector. Unlike most awards in Tertiary Education that tend to recognise only academic achievement, the Mount Nelson Award is given in recognition of an individual’s potential to make a significant contribution to their chosen profession and a commitment to our community.
Looking to the future, Emily plans to use her design education, combined with her experience and involvement with various communities and cultures to create change at both a local and international level.
