Course structure

A candidate shall undertake a course of study in the following areas:

  • A major (50%) in Performance or Composition
  • FCA445 Music Research Methodology unit (12.5%)
  • 1 x 12.5% elective, chosen from the approved elective schedule
  • Honours and Postgraduate Research Forum
  • For Performance Students: either a written exegesis weighted at 25% or a recording project
    weighted at 25%
  • For Composition students: a written exegesis weighted at 25%.

Students will enrol in XSB400 Honours (0.00%) in their final semester. The award of honours is given in relation to the whole of the year's work. The award is graded as follows - First Class; Second Class, upper division; Second Class, lower division; or Third Class; and will be recorded against the administrative unit XSB400 Honours.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Domestic students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place will be charged a fee based on the number of units they enrol in. In 2020, this fee is $46.20 per unit (of 12.5 credit points). In 2020, the maximum charge for full time students is $308.

International students

2020 Total Course Fee (international students): $30,450 AUD*.

Course cost based on a rate of $30,450 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
