Music From 1850 to 1950 FCH202



Musicology majors: all students in the musicology major will be assigned to a Conservatorium ensemble and are required to attend all rehearsals and participate in concert performances.


This unit explores the essential developments in Western art music from the mid-nineteenth century to just after the second World War. Music, musicians and the work of composers as Strauss, Bartok, Debussy, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Messiaen et al. are referenced with consideration to the major emphases as reflected in 20th century art and society.
