Furniture for Interiors KDA216

Launceston

Note:

This unit is a core unit for Interior Design students that is also being offered as an elective to other students. Elective enrolment requires registration at the School.

Introduction

In this unit students investigate the production and selection of furniture for interior environments. Furniture function is explored through ergonomics and analysis of the role of furniture in the creation of space. Analysis of significant furniture precedents is used to develop design and aesthetic appreciation. Students develop decision making capacities for the selection of furniture based on critical evaluation, design intent, industry literature and trade advice. Materials, construction techniques and detailing for furniture production are addressed. This includes issues of environmental sustainability and anthropometrics. Students develop an understanding of furniture production specification and scheduling.
