Professional Experience Placement (PEP): Students will be allocated PEP within individual health care agencies. Students must be available 5 days a week (mornings, evenings, weekends and night shifts as per roster), may be required to relocate and are expected to travel to where the PEP is available. To be eligible to undertake PEP, all SNM students must meet the requirements of the Health Science Safety in Practice Kit by completing and submitting all Safety in Practice Agreement compliance documentation to the School. Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.
This unit introduces and facilitates the development of the fundamental knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour required for undertaking safe practice in health care environments. The unit highlights the importance of the NMBA National Competency Standards (2006) for the Registered Nurse in the practice context. It introduces a diverse range of registered nurse responsibilities and activities that occur in a variety of health care settings. Simulated, experiential learning and reflective practice are introduced in this unit.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
Special approval is required for enrolment into TNE Program units.
