Fish Histopathology JFA549

Note:

Enrolment limited to 12 students.  Unit may be taken by students studying the Aquatic Animal Health specialisation as part of their postgraduate coursework if there are places available.  Contact Barbara Nowak to discuss enrolment.

Introduction

This unit provides a solid foundation in fish histopathology. The main focus of the unit is interpretation of histology slides showing structure of normal and diseased organs of teleost fish. Methods used in histology, including different staining techniques, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation are also covered, including their interpretation. Laboratory style delivery  - conference microscopes and teaching software. Previous knowledge and understanding of fish anatomy and physiology would be an advantage.
