You need to choose a major, a minor, 4 degree electives and 6 student electives, and 2 breadth units. The Art Theory minor is a compulsory minor for all students. Therefore, the Art Theory major can only be taken as a second major with the first major being a Studio major.

This degree consists of a total of 24 units comprising:

  • A major of 8 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate (with a total between 25 credit points and up to 50 credit points), and 4 advanced units (which will be 2 x 25 credit point units - e.g. FSH311 and FSH312)
  • A minor of 4 units: 2 introductory, 2 intermediate units  (compulsory Art Theory minor)
  • Four degree electives (dependent on number of credit points chosen for intermediate level units for the major):
    • If you choose a major with 25 credit points of intermediate level units (e.g. FSH281 and FSH282), you will need to complete four degree electives (2 must be introductory level and two intermediate/advanced level, providing you meet the unit level requirements of the degree)
    • If you choose a major with 37.5 credit points of intermediate level units (e.g. FSH211 and FSH282), you will have to complete only three degree electives (2 introductory and 1 intermediate/advanced)
    • If you choose a major with 50 credit points of intermediate level units (e.g. FSH211 and FSH212) you will have to complete only two introductory degree electives
  • Two compulsory breadth units: 1 introductory level unit and 1 introductory, intermediate, or advanced level unit (more information about breadth units)
  • Six student electives: units which may be chosen from this or any other subject area within the University, provided they meet the unit level requirements for the degree (see next point below), unit pre-requisites and quotas.
  • Unit level requirements for the degree are:
    • between 8-10 units at introductory level,
    • 6-10 units at intermediate level and;
    • 6-10 units at advanced level.
    • For example, this means you could study 8 introductory, 8 intermediate and 8 advanced, or you could take 8 introductory, 7 intermediate and 9 advanced units or other combinations within these ranges.
