Duration

Duration refers to the minimum and maximum amounts of time in which this course can be completed. It will be affected by whether you choose to study full or part time, noting that some programs are only available part time.

Location

This course may not be available to international students. Please see the list of distance courses (i.e. online and taken outside Australia) that are offered to international students

Admission to this course from 2018, will occur under A3E Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning.

Students in the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning will be teaching or aspiring to teach in an applied learning setting, such as TAFE, private Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or in a workplace educator or trainer role. This course is also suitable for Service personnel seeking a commission in training specialisations.  Students who complete this degree will enjoy the flexible nature of online learning, and gain a professional qualification to enhance their teaching career.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning course will be able to:

  • Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate adult and applied learning programs in different learning and teaching contexts.
  • Respond to organisational change and development initiatives with appropriate and effective adult learning interventions.
  • Research their own teaching practice using educational theory.
  • Apply relevant institutional professional standards to reflect on teaching practice for continual improvement.
  • Communicate professionally in workplace and educational settings using a wide range of traditional and digital media.
  • Respond professionally and ethically to a wide range of student and employee educational and developmental needs.

Career outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning will be highly valued by TAFEs, Defence & Emergency Service training academies, nursing and hospitality colleges, and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). They also will be well positioned to fulfil roles within Human Resource and Development (HRD) where the professional development of staff is a key function.

Course structure

The Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning consists of twenty core units and four degree electives. All units will be one semester in length and weighted at 12.5%.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning you will need to hold vocational qualifications (minimum of Certificate III) in your current or intended teaching area, as well as significant (at least 4 years) of relevant industry experience. Please contact the Course Coordinator if you would like to discuss these admission requirements.

This course articulates with the Graduate Certificate in Education (Applied Learning), The Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours (Applied Learning).

This course articulates into the Faculty's post-graduate coursework, including the Bachelor of Education (Professional Honours) and the Master of Education.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students

Scholarships

Students who are teaching VET in a Tasmanian school, college, TasTAFE or TAFE QLD may be entitled to apply for a HECS Scholarship when undertaking a course from the Applied Learning specialisation. Please see below for more details:
