The Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours (Geographical Education) is designed to meet the needs of teaching professionals seeking in depth professional learning in geographical education. The course includes opportunities to study specialised units in this field, as well as options for independent study and practice projects and the development of research skills in educational enquiry.

NOTE: Course is not available to international students

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours (Geographical Education) graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the provision of quality geographical education across diverse contexts;
  • Critically analyse, evaluate and transform research findings as well as professional and personal experience to improve geographical education practice in a range of contexts;
  • Analyse, generate, communicate, and critically reflect on responses to complex problems;
  • Communicate effectively with diverse professional and scholarly communities across a range of platforms.

The units are available fully online and the choice of units can be viewed in the course structure.

Please Note: This course does not qualify graduates as teachers. The appropriate graduate entry course for initial teacher training is the Master of Teaching.

Course structure

The course consists of two core units, ESH714 Understanding Educational Inquiry and ESG748 Education Project 1, plus five specified coursework units.

All units are one semester in length and all units are weighted at 12.5% except for ESG748 (25%).

Entry requirements

The University requires applicants for admission to the Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours (Geographical Education) degree to hold a Bachelor of Education or a degree in other discipline with a Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Teaching, or Master of Teaching, or to those holding equivalent qualifications.

The Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours(Geographical Education) articulates directly with the Master of Education. The course is not designed to articulate directly with research higher degrees. Students who complete the four specified coursework units will be able to exit the course with a Graduate Certificate in Geographical Education.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
