Graduates will have gained technical knowledge and skills applicable to medical research, and developed advanced skills in written and verbal scientific communication. Graduates will have advanced problem-solving skills and will have an understanding of the global, social and ethical context of medical research.
This course offers an exit point of a Graduate Diploma of Medical Research after 1 year of full-time study.
Career outcomes
There are many career pathways available for students completing a postgraduate degree in this field which include: designing and conducting experiments, critically evaluating research outcomes, analysing and interpreting complex scientific data and the development and understanding of research problems. You may also have the opportunity to conduct research which is significant on a global level.

Entry requirements
Eligibility
This course is not currently open to applications.
Bachelors degree
A minimum of a science-based Bachelor’s degree of the University of Tasmania or of another University or tertiary Institute that is deemed equivalent.
Where an undergraduate degree has been recently obtained, a minimum average grade of 60% (credit) in the final 2 years would be required. Applicants below a credit average will be considered based on a combination of academic record and relevant experience after graduation.
Articulations
Articulation from Bachelor of Medical Research with Applied Honours:
BMedResApplHons students will be eligible for entry to the MMedRes(spec) with advanced standing granted for up to four units (50 credit points) completed in the Applied Honours.
Articulation to / from Graduate Diploma of Medical Research (Specialisation):
The GradDipMedRes (spec) provides an exit award for the MMedRes(spec), for students who have completed Year 1 of the course but have not achieved a 70% average. Students who have completed the GradDipMedRes (spec) with a 70% average will be eligible for entry to the MMedRes(spec) with advanced standing granted for Year 1 (100 credit points) of the MMedRes(spec).
IELTS
International students must also have IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Domestic students enrolled in certain postgraduate coursework programs may not be eligible for student payments through Youth Allowance and Austudy. Visit the Department of Social Services website to find out more about eligibility for Centrelink support and the list of eligible courses
International students
2021 Total Course Fee (international students): $ 69,088 AUD *.
Course cost based on a rate of $33,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students
