Professional Experience Placement (PEP): Students will be allocated PEP within individual health care agencies. Students must be available 5 days a week (mornings, evenings, weekends, nightshifts, as per roster), may be expected to relocate and are expected to travel to where PEP is available. To be eligible to undertake PEP, all students must meet the requirements of the Health Science Safety in Practice kit by completing and submitting all Safety in Practice Agreement compliance documentation to the School. Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit. PEP dates MAY differ from University of Tasmania calendar semester dates.
This unit introduces and facilitates the development of the fundamental knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour required for undertaking safe practice in healthcare environments. It incorporates 80 hours of Professional Experience Placement (PEP) in a practice environment and highlights the importance of the Professional Practice Framework and the Registered Nurse Standards for practice. It introduces a diverse range of registered nurse responsibilities, with a focus on safety, quality and evidence-based practice.Students will continue to develop their professional portfolio and engage in critical and reflective analysis at a beginning level as they make progress towards demonstrating emerging competence in practice.
