The new allied health courses are recognised in the AQF as level 9.

The University’s School of Health Sciences’ is preparing to offer a number of postgraduate courses in 2022, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology.

Students will be able to study from anywhere in Tasmania with the new courses being based at Launceston, Burnie and Hobart.

The new courses will be flexibly delivered. This means you will complete portions of your study through digitalised learning platforms and primarily attend campus for intensive practical blocks each semester. You will also engage in work-based learning in real health care facilities across Tasmania.

The new programs are two-year full-time courses. The option to study part time may become available in 2023.

Contact hours vary across the courses, however, you should allocate at least 32 hours per week to dedicate to study.

Each new allied health course includes work-based learning in every semester. Each course includes extensive work based learning to enable students to master the applied and practical aspects of professional practice. You will be given the opportunity to assess and treat clients in hospitals and a range of other clinical, professional and community health settings under the supervision of a qualified clinician. All Professional Experience Placements are completed in a full-time capacity, regardless of the study mode you are undertaking.

Yes, there is a compliance process that all students must undertake. It is something that every health care professional must do, in accordance with relevant national organisations and State and Territory regulatory and legislative guidelines. Applications for the Master of Physiotherapy, Master of Speech Pathology, and Master of Occupational Therapy will be available for Semester 2, 2022. To register your interest, or to find out more, please submit your details through the above form.

The new allied health courses are open to different types of applicants. Those with:

  • recent secondary education (within the last two years)
  • higher education study in a health or health related field
  • Preferred pathway study at UTAS
