This course is flexible, online and available part-time. It is designed for health professionals and health service administrative staff wishing to gain expert skills in leading effective change management, systems integration knowledge, privacy and security management.
The course includes information about:
- electronic medical records
- health information retrieval and analytics
- data mining and knowledge discovery
- data security
- bio informatics and bio statistics
- managing change
The multi-disciplinary, multi-dimensional field of Health Informatics is the application of information technology to healthcare delivery. It focusses on the effective use of information and discovery of knowledge for providing real world solutions for improving care delivery and health outcomes.
By its very nature, health informatics is challenging and complex. Yet it is this complexity that makes it such an intriguing, exciting and rewarding field in which to be involved.
Students who are interested in the Graduate Diploma or Master are strongly encouraged to undertake the Professional Honours, a Commonwealth Supported Place. Upon successful completion of the first four units in the Professional Honours students are able to articulate to the Graduate Diploma* or Master* with full advanced standing.

Entry Requirements
H4E is not currently accepting applications.
To be eligible for an offer, an applicant must have:
- Completed a bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Two years previous experience working in a health care setting (this includes but is not limited to a hospital, a health clinic, aged care setting, primary health care, department of community services).
- A Curriculum Vitae detailing minimum two years work experience in the required area of work.
International applicants

Admission Prerequisites
The course is suitable for health professionals and information management professionals who wish to enhance their understanding and ability to work effectively with information and communication technologies. The course is also designed for graduates who wish to pursue a career as a health informatics specialist.
In order to qualify for admission to the Professional Honours program, applicants should:
- hold a three-year degree with a major in a health related or communications technology area, OR
- have experience and/or qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Director of the Centre for Rural Health
As all units in the course use online resources, students need to have regular access to email and the internet.

Articulation to
Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.
The Bachelor of E-Health (Health Informatics) (Professional Honours) articulates directly with the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma of E-Health (Health Informatics).
Students who complete the four core units will be able to exit the course with a Graduate Certificate of E-Health (Health Informatics), and students who complete eight coursework units may be able to exit the degree with a Graduate Diploma of E-Health (Health Informatics).

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
